Hempitecture traveled to Europe and back for the 8th International Hemp Building Symposium.
And it was a great time! The Symposium, held annually by well known hempcrete builder, Steve Allin, brought together an incredible group of individuals all focused on different areas of Hempcrete construction and design, as well as those focused on growing and processing industrial hemp biomass. The conference provided a wide angle look at the challenges and opportunities for hempcrete implementation across the world. It was an inspiring event as it was one of the first times we were able to join a consortium of likeminded individuals, all focused on hempcrete!
Check out our video recap of our trip to Europe:
Northwest Green Building Slam at University of Washington a Success

The team had a quick turn around time between returning back to the states from Europe and presenting at the Northwest Green Building Slam, held by the NW Ecobuilding Guild at University of Washington. With over 350 individuals in attendance, this was the largest audience we have ever presented to. The evening was filled with 10 presentations, each 10 minutes long, with 10 slides per presenter.
The result: an incredibly inspiring evening filled with new ideas, progressive sustainability in the built environment, and networking with green building enthusiasts and professionals. We often find that many approach the idea of hempcrete building with skepticism but we're certain we made a lot of believers.
Below is a quick clip from the Slam presentation. Keep an eye on our YouTube channel for the full, high quality video.
"The Basics of Hempcrete: An Instructional How-To" series coming soon...
Often we are asked questions on how hemp building works and how can individuals begin learning about hempcrete construction techniques. There are many great instructional books out there, but we feel that a "How-To" video could address some of these questions in an easy, fun, and informative format. For that reason, the Hempitecture team has put together a 4 part series on the basics of hempcrete. This series will cover 3 important areas: Mixing, Forming, and Packing.
Get a taste of what's to come by tuning into the promotional video for the upcoming series below! We'll be sure to announce when the full series is posted.
It has been a busy and productive month. We're excited to begin focusing on upcoming projects for the spring and summer. We wish you a beautiful fall season and hope that when you're ready to discuss plans for your upcoming hempcrete building project, you won't hesitate to contact us.
All the best,
The Hempitecture Team
