When it comes to renovating or retrofitting your home or building, insulation should be one of the first things taken into consideration. Renovations add value to buildings and are typically lower cost than new construction. Insulation like HempWool® can help reduce energy costs, improve indoor air quality, and create a more comfortable living or working space. However, traditional insulation materials can be costly and may not be as environmentally friendly as we would like. That's where HempWool insulation comes in. Grown in North America and Made in the USA, you will find numerous benefits of using hemp insulation for retrofitting and renovating your homes and buildings.
Why HempWool is a great choice for building retrofits and renovations:
Reduced Energy Costs
One of the primary benefits of HempWool is its excellent thermal insulation properties. The pressure fit system that keeps HempWool in place without experiencing slumping or sagging means better overall performance in the long term. Builders can avoid costly callbacks or residents experiencing drafts as HempWool creates a tight thermal envelope in the building thanks to the dimensional stability of the hemp fiber. The high thermal inertia of HempWool makes it a phase-shift-resistant material, which helps regulate the interior temperature of a building all year round. Hemp insulation can help reduce heat loss during the winter and heat gain during the summer, which can lead to significant energy savings. According to the Department of Energy, properly installed insulation can save homeowners up to 20% on heating and cooling costs.
Longer Lifespan
HempWool is a USDA Bio-based Certified material and is composed of ~90% hemp fibers, those industrial hemp fibers are known for their durability and longevity. HempWool can last for decades without needing to be replaced or repaired. HempWool® is vapor permeable and hygroscopic, so interaction with moisture is not an issue and helps prevent airborne moisture movement, making it mold resistant. The VOC-Free natural FR Agent we will be adding to our HempWool+ line has also been shown to help deter mold growth and pests!

Cost-Effective and Easy Installation
HempWool® is a panelized product. Similar to mineral wool in its form and install process, there is no need to worry about expensive cost overruns during the install. The pressure fit system means no need for unreliable blowers, annoying staples and baffles, or insulation-retaining mesh.
While our materials are bio-based and safe to touch, we always recommend that workers wear protective clothing to avoid injury when handling cutting tools during installation and to always follow OSHA guidelines.

Increased Property Value
Investing in improving your buildings insulation can increase the value of your property. A well-insulated home or building is more attractive to potential buyers, as it can help reduce energy costs and create a more comfortable living or working space. This means that you can recoup some of your insulation costs when it comes time to sell your property.
There are also a number of new and interesting energy-efficiency improvements that are are financially incentived by the government! This is dependent by city and state, but here's a great resource to get started.
Environmental Benefits
Buildings and their operations are responsible for approximately 40% of our energy consumption and 40% of the total carbon footprint. We can't keep designing with the same materials and expecting that we'll have different results
We must design more responsibly, with more sustainable materials.
HempWool® is the only thermal insulation product that has a biogenic carbon uptake, meaning that you are using a carbon-negative material, while also improving the efficiency of the buildings' thermal envelope. Made from the fibers of the hemp plant, which is a renewable resource, our materials highlight a truly sustainable supply chain from seed to the building.
