"Restoring a Sun Valley Icon"

Writer's picture: Matthew MeadMatthew Mead

Hempitecture donated and installed HempWool at the historic Pioneer Cabin in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Built in 1938, the Pioneer Cabin offers sweeping panoramic views of the Pioneer Mountain Range. The cabin sits at nearly 9,500 feet above sea level, and was originally constructed by the Sun Valley Resort Co. as a resource for their alpine touring program.

Today, the Pioneer Cabin is frequented by hikers who marvel at the location and history of this gem after a 2+ hour hike over 2,000 vertical feet to its location. Perhaps best known for the inscription on the roof “THE HIGHER YOU GET, THE HIGHER YOU GET,” the cabin has unfortunately fallen into disrepair.

Proactive community members, in conjunction with permission from the US Forest Service, are working to restore this cabin to its former glory.

Hempitecture was able to play a small part in contributing to the legacy of this building by donating, and installing HempWool in the cabin, increasing its thermal comfort and offering more protection to both the structure and its occasional inhabitants.
