HempWool® Receives USDA Biobased Product Certification

Hempitecture HempWool® was awarded USDA Biobased Product Certification, after an independent 3rd party laboratory verified the biobased content of HempWool hemp insulation to be 89.9% biobased. This means that the organic carbon content of our flagship insulation product, HempWool, qualifies it to be placed in the Federal Government BioPreffered Program. Additionally, we are now able to market our product as USDA Certified Biobased, which is a voluntary labeling procedure.

The BioPreferred Program is a USDA-led initiative that aims to assist in the development and expansion of markets for biobased products. The program was created by the 2002 Farm Bill (legislation), and expanded as part of the 2014 Farm Bill. The increased development, purchase, and use of biobased products is intended to reduce the United States reliance on petroleum, and increase the use of renewable agricultural materials.

BioPreferred is transforming the marketplace for biobased products through two initiatives:

  • mandatory purchasing requirements for Federal agencies and Federal contractors

  • voluntary product certification and labeling

We are proud to have received USDA BioPrefferred Certification on our HempWool® Product. You can expect to see this label on our future marketing and packaging materials. Hempitecture will continue to strive for increasing the biobased content of our products to create Truly Sustainable Materials, from plant based resources like industrial hemp.
