Wednesday, October 14th, 2021, marked a celebratory milestone -Hempitecture broke ground for their new manufacturing facility in Southern Idaho.
From the Groundbreaking event to our 14th Hempcrete Contractor Training to preparing for our upcoming Hemp Building Summit in Austin, TX it has been an action-packed couple of weeks for us here at Hempitecture! With all this excitement abound, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the effort and support from our community-at-large, that has made it possible for us to successfully prepare for this new manufacturing facility.
Co-founder and Chief Innovations Officer, Tommy Gibbons, reflects, "it was in July of 2019 on our way back from returning a Bobcat to Twin Falls after a hempcrete workshop in Mackay, Idaho that Hempitecture decided to pivot to a hemp fiber batt insulation product as Hempitcture's core offering. The initial phone conversation with our international manufacturing partner actually took place as Mattie and I were driving home over the Perrine Bridge. What followed was a complete revamp of our marketing and product offerings to introduce HempWool® to America. Soon after, we realized the material was compelling to customers but the lead time and freight costs were not, so we embarked on a nationwide search for a suitable manufacturing facility entertaining locations in California, Oregon, Montana, and Nevada. Bringing hemp insulation manufacturing home to a location moments from where we started the journey with HempWool® in the same year that industrial hemp was legalized in Idaho feels like reassurance from the universe that we are on the right path."
The chance to bring a new ag-tech manufacturing facility to Southern Idaho is the opportunity to help our communities flourish and grow. This nonwoven materials facility will not only create HempWool insulation for all building projects (including vans, homes, and buildings), but it will also create sustainable cold freight packaging for shipping and packing food, medicine, and other materials that need to stay cold.
