In a world that constantly evolves, there are those who strive to make a lasting impact on future generations. Meet Rita and Brogan, the founders of Good Ancestor Co., a company that blends their passion for design and nature to create beautiful, sustainable environments. Inspired by the idea of leaving behind a positive legacy for generations to come, they embarked on a remarkable journey to renovate their California Farmstyle house with a focus on sustainability. One of the key elements of their renovation was the use of HempWool insulation, a unique and eco-friendly choice that perfectly aligns with their mission to create a flourishing earth and a loving, supportive society.

A Vision of Being Good Ancestors:

For nearly two decades, Rita and Brogan have dedicated their lives to the world of design and creativity, both in the physical and digital realms. However, their desire to be "Good Ancestors" goes beyond personal gain or immediate gratification. They firmly believe that the decisions made today will shape the future of generations they will never meet. Their vision is to contribute towards collective human flourishing and preserve the earth, creating a world that will allow them to look back on their time with gratitude for the loving choices they made.

The Journey to Sustainability:

Rita and Brogan's journey towards sustainability began at their humble old farmstyle house in California. As they chased after their three wild children and adventured in nature, they realized the need to align their living space with their values. The renovation of their home became a sacred opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment and society.

On Choosing HempWool Insulation:

Brogran and Rita shared,

"When you have kids you have an awakening... you realize that you are no longer responsible for yourself. That obvious, yet profound revelation, creates change in the way you think and what you do. When we decided to remodel our 1939 beach ranch we wanted to make sure we put the best products into our home. For us and our young children. We chose Hempitecture for their commitment to produce the lowest impact products that still matched or exceeded industry standards for insulation. We wanted clean air and a great thermal barrier! We got both from a product that captures carbon from the air and sequesters it back into the soil. A real win, win, win!"

In their quest for eco-friendly materials, Rita and Brogan discovered HempWool insulation, a game-changer in the world of sustainable housing. HempWool is made from hemp fibers, a renewable and biodegradable resource that offers exceptional insulation properties. Unlike conventional fiberglass insulation, HempWool is free from harmful chemicals and allergens, providing a safe and healthy living environment for their family.

The Benefits of HempWool:

  1. Sustainability: HempWool is derived from hemp plants, which require minimal water and no pesticides to grow. Additionally, hemp sequesters carbon dioxide, making it an environmentally friendly choice.

  2. Energy Efficiency: HempWool boasts excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling, thereby cutting down on energy consumption.

  3. Breathability: HempWool allows moisture to pass through the walls, preventing condensation and mold growth, ensuring a comfortable and healthy indoor environment.

  4. Durability: HempWool insulation has a long lifespan and does not degrade over time, meaning fewer replacements and less waste.

  5. Safety and Health: HempWool is a non-toxic and red-list-ingredient-free material. It's safe enough that their children were able to handle the insulation and help with the installation! This insulation is VOC-free and will not off-gas toxins, unlike other conventional materials.

Embracing a Thoughtful Future:

By choosing HempWool insulation and supporting companies with genuine care for the planet, Rita and Brogan are investing in a thoughtful and caring future. Their approach to design and sustainability demonstrates that a collective effort towards human flourishing and earth preservation is not only possible but essential.

Rita and Brogan, the driving forces behind Good Ancestor Co., have exemplified how passion, purpose, and sustainable choices can transform a California Farmstyle house into a haven that positively impacts both individuals and the planet. Their commitment to using sustainable materials like HempWool insulation sets an inspiring example for others, showing that it is possible to embrace sustainable alternatives and leave behind a legacy of care, creativity, and love. As they continue to pave the way, we are reminded that each one of us can be a "Good Ancestor" by making mindful decisions for the betterment of generations yet to come. Let's join them in this transformative journey towards a flourishing earth and a supportive society.

Hard to square this post when you see that they also decided on spray foam for the ceiling, one of the most toxic materials one can build with. You also really strength out the carbon payback when you add that stuff into the mix. There are other ways to do this that are less harmful.
